BBC's live iPhone two-way follows CfJ trailblazing

Yesterday the BBC claimed an interesting broadcasting first - a live interview with a guest conducted using only an iPhone.

The experiment used an app called Dejero, which the BBC has on trial at the moment. Nick Garnett from 5 Live has blogged about it here, and you can see a clip of how it worked out.

Of course regular readers of this site will remember that back in 2009 we tried a similar experiment with some of our undergraduates using a Nokia phone and a video streaming service called qik.com.

It was modestly successful - although we ran into difficulties with sound synchronisation, and a broadcast time delay which made it difficult to do a true two-way. You can see it here.

Nonetheless it's good to see that where the CfJ leads, major broadcasters follow...

I wonder if any our current third years will be adventurous enough to try a live iPhone-based report in one of their forthcoming assessed news days.

I'll see what I can do with a Nokia 3310 & a shoelace. That'd be impressive.

You know we're all basically going to attempt this challenge now don't you?
