Gentlemen Ranters is a blog that publishes a charmingly eccentric compendium of fond reminiscences and tall tales from the glory days of the old Fleet Street. You may find it intriguing, adorable or absurd according to taste. I like it lots and in these straightened days, when the government is running off with all our money, the planet is suffering like a snail in a microwave and our beloved news industry is imitating the Titanic (just after the iceberg and long before the film) there are reasons to celebrate small, fragile gems such as this. Ho hum.
And particularly the one about Lord Longford and the mammaries and the spectacles. Good to see vibrant, humorous storytelling there and a valuable lesson for me on not needing to write thousands of words on a report and avoid waffling on like Lord Longford did :). Also, a good lesson not to think that just because there may be a quiet slot in a working day, you never know what might break, in the case of Stalin's death. Some good reading :).
