This half-hour radio 4 programme on the increasingly prevalent use of pilot-less drones in war gives a nice overview of the subject. Being so short, it doesn't go into some of the thornier issues surrounding their use - the law on extrajudicial executions, the differences in accountability between military and CIA use of drones - but it's extremely enlightening nonetheless.
Dave Grohl has to be one of the busiest men in music. Some will know him as the drummer of Nirvana, those grunge guys from the nineties who I think were a tad overrated. Most will know him as the all out and very funny front man and principle songwriter of the Foo Fighters. He has also worked with groups such as Queens of the Stone Age, Tenacious D, the Prodigy and Nine Inch Nails.
The Foo Fighters have recently released a greatest hits compilation after announcing a hiatus with the possibility of reinventing the band.
Now, most normal people, when taking a hiatus, might take it easy, maybe a bit of solo work but oh no, not Mr. Grohl. He has formed a new band called, 'Them Crooked Vultures'. Not only that, he did it in secret while he was still performing with the Foo Fighters.
I am particularly looking forward to this because he is reuniting with Queens of the Stone Age singer/guitarist Josh Homme who has quite a distinctive singing style and will be fronting the new project. The bassist and keyboardist is John Paul Jones from Led Zeppelin while Grohl will return to the role of drummer.
Their tour sold out in 12 minutes, making it one of the fastest selling in the UK.
