In 2012, a journalist has been killed every 5 days... yet people still look down on the profession.

 

A total of 21 journalists and six online journalists and citizen journalists have been killed so far this year, according to Reporters Without Borders, which claims this equals "a rate of one news provider killed every five days".

The Leveson Inquiry and the future of Journalism

Actor Steve Coogan has compared the media to the mafia, speaking at the Leveson Inquiry.

Coogan, of Alan Partridge fame, has been one of many public figures affected by the phone hacking scandal. In 2010 Coogan's lawyers gained access to a version of Glenn Mulcaire’s hacking notebook through a court order.  The notebook revealed that Mulcaire had targeted Coogan and had access to personal information about the actor.

University fees and the new generation of Labour supporters.

   David Miliband expressed outrage about the raise in tuition fees to a lecture hall full of students yesterday afternoon.

 

Speaking at the University of Kent, Mr Miliband, the former foreign secretary and current MP for South Shields, said the measure was a move “far far too far.”
