Slow news day?

It must have been one heck of a boring afternoon in this Salisbury newsroom. If anyone has any information, it's likely that nobody cares.

CfJ Newswire goes live!

CfJ Newswire

This morning at 8am the Centre for Journalism Newswire goes live to the world. The project is being undertaken as part of the Centre's Online news day for second-year undergraduates. We will be covering - for one day only - a mix of national and international stories, as well as local stories relevant to Kent using a variety of multimedia techniques.

Robbie Savage v BBC Radio Derby

Something interesting popped up today on BBC Radio Derby and has then been posted on the BBC website regarding something the station reported on Saturday, it's worth a listen as it's extraordinary. Footballer Robbie Savage defending his backroom staff at Derby County from so-called 'unresponsible journalism' carried out by the local radio station!

Interactive council election results

Local election results across 35 county councils are due today and the Guardian has this fantastic interactive presentation that is being updated frequently as results come in, showing changes in seats as well as giving great background into each council, such as council tax band and crime/unemployment statistics. Check it out.

The BBC maintaining impartiality

As I’m sure you are all aware, the BBC is facing severe protests outside Broadcasting House amid calls for it to air an appeal to the British public to help those in need in Gaza.

A big thank you...

On Friday afternoon the Centre for Journalism welcomed Sarah Ivens, editor of OK! Magazine in the US, to the newsroom. With her she brought experience of working in multiple publications across this country and abroad, and an obvious passion for journalism that was evident throughout the Q&A session.

Midweek football

Can I just point out how nice it is to see nine Premier League games being played simultaneously midweek? It's something we haven't seen for a very long time due to the UEFA Cup, Champions League and hectic schedule. It's nice to be able to enjoy a very rare occurence like this! If only Newcastle didn't play last night and it'd be a full house!

Match of the Day at 10:45, BBC One. :)

New MacBooks On The Way!

After being exposed as a closet geek by Ian this week I thought I might as well stop repressing the urge to blog about the various techno-stories that surface.

This Tuesday is a huge week in the Mac-world, with Apple confirming that ‘the spotlight turns to notebooks' when they hold a press event at their campus in Cupertino. The announcement ends months of speculation regarding the exact date that new MacBooks and MacBook Pros were being unveiled, with Apple ‘going green' in the latest update to their successful notebook franchise.
