The Importance Of Organ Donation

On 1 May, Facebook announced that they are working with the NHS Organ Donation Register to increase the number of people on the donor register. You can now click on a tab on their Facebook page and fill in your details to joing the register.

Is this really what journalism has come to?

I saw this on the daily mail website yesterday and it made me rather angry:

Know anybody who is on the organ donor list waiting for an organ or somebody who may have recieved an organ? Please help.

I am doing a multimedia storytelling project on organ donation and as you can probably guess I am looking for stories to tell.

Due to doctor-patient confidentiality laws I am having difficulties finding people.

So if anybody knows anyone who

  • is on the organ donor list waiting for an organ or
  • who may have recieved an organ or
  • who may have donated one

Please please please let me know!

Any help would be amazing! I will be eternally grateful.

Thank you.

Today saw the trial of three of the world's top cricketers accused of exposing their sport to "rampant corruption" at Southwark crown court in central London. They deny charges of conspiracy to cheat and accept corrupt payments over a test match at Lords. A tabloid newspaper alleges they took bribes to bowl deliberate no bowls.

Drama about Irish journalist Veronica Guerin on BBC iplayer.

I saw this earlier on BBC iplayer and thought it maybe of interest to some other journalism students so I would post it on here.

Its a short drama about the Irish journalist Veronica Guerin based on true events.

The description says:

Drama based on the true events of an Irish journalist's tenacious pursuit of Dublin's drug and crime lords, culminating in her assassination by those very people in 1996.

Human error or just bad journalism?

After Chris Jefferies’ winning defamation payout in January [Joanna Yeates' landlord who won ‘substantial’ undisclosed libel from eight newspapers] and the on-going phone hacking scandal of the summer, this had not exactly been a great year for journalistic integrity. Today, another story has broken where ITV, in a documentary supposedly examining connections between Muammar Gaddafi and the IRA, accidently included footage which has turned out to be from a video game called ARMA 2. The footage which shows a helicopter being shot down was in the documentary labelled "IRA film 1988".
