The Guardian rounds up the best comments, questions and answers from our recent live chat on tomorrow's journalist – what tools and skills will they need to survive and thrive?
Calling all people at the CFJ:
The collective minds of Averill, May and myself have decided that the Medway Campus needs some form of audible representation...
There is a long term plan, eventually becoming the greatest radio station in all of Mordor Medway, however for the minute we are going to be doing a twice monthly Podcast.
For the minute, as we sit in my pig sty of a room, we are suggesting the programme be of the following agenda:
(in no particular order)
Informal local news
Local bands
Reviews
Guests
Jingles (amazing ones)
Weekly features (Saucy Saunders Suggests? The Dack Attack?)
And Local Sport, because it makes Averill feel more manly.
Obviously, despite being extremely gifted at everything, the three of us need YOU to help out, much like the system UMM runs.
Worse comes to worse we'll steal a 'You & Yours' script each week and rerecord it
We are looking to have this done by Friday the 26th...which is next week. The beauty of this is, comparatively to live radio, is that it should be relatively stress free for anybody other than the three of us.
We look forward to hearing your ideas, and your enthusiasm to help us out.
Tally ho,
Daniel, James and Jonathan.
(Moony, Padfoot and Prongs)
Mischief managed
The problem with the 'system' is that people say they are going to help or write something, and then despite at least 10 attempts to get that piece, it doesn't materialise, does it Jon?
Albeit, I'm interested - but unlikely to have any time for the next couple of weeks.
Are you planning on being funded by UMSA? They'll probably be a pain when it comes to legal checks for live radio... But can you let me know because I'm speaking to Claire about the media budget on Monday.
Surely most editors have back ups in case people such as myself do not submit what they promised to deliver.
It would be great to have you on board. For the time being, this is an independent project. What we are doing at the moment is focusing on what we can establish without a budget. Once we have developed a quality product with a decent following, we intend to present some form of plan to some form of body.
That being said I am assuming the budget runs from April to April...meaning it could slightly ruin progression..eeeek.
Help please...Jonathan x
Budgets are set around now for the next university year. You could always get a development fund later on, I guess - I got an extra £700 out of UMSA this year.
You could talk to the music tech guys as well. Some of them were keen to get a radio station running last year.
Keep me posted.
Already speaking to a load of them...
are YOU interested?!
I said I was interested in my original comment, dear. I just don't have any spare time this week and possibly the next.
My bad...should be around for the second Podcast...cheers x
