The Guardian rounds up the best comments, questions and answers from our recent live chat on tomorrow's journalist – what tools and skills will they need to survive and thrive?
As you may or may not know from various Facebook statuses, I have been promoted to the editorial staff of geeks.co.uk and like all good editors I need some amazing writers. Which means you guys.
I’ve been put in charge of the film section and I’ve been tasked with finding a crack team of peeps to write some stuff for the site. The sorts of things I’m looking for is film reviews writing up any movie news. If you have any feature ideas then let me know and we can sort out getting them published.
This is a fantastic (and fairly straightforward) way of getting pieces for various portfolios, whether it be for the NCTJ or to show prospective employers. And obviously with all the glitz and glamour of that goes with the film business, I’ll be able to sort you out press passes for media screenings of all the latest releases up in London.
The site is currently undergoing a bit of a makeover and receives around 140,000 unique visitors every month. There is talk of external investors getting involved which could make the site even bigger. If you’re not a fan of films and are more interested in writing about other areas like music or TV then I can pass your names on to the appropriate people.
I know you all received the email back in February on the same thing but obviously as lil’ ol’ me is running things then it makes it a slightly more appealing proposition right?
If you are interested and fancy a crack at it, then send us an email (dpm29[at]kent.ac.uk) and I’ll let you know some more details. Obviously I’d rather give you guys the opportunity than look elsewhere. It also makes organising things a bit easier to do things through face-to-face conversation rather than countless emails.
Hope you’re all enjoying your summer break.
Dan
