Social media and journalism can contribute to spreading good news too

There a lot of depressing news stories doing the rounds at the moment from long-term problems like the Euro Zone crisis and fears of recession, to more recent stories like the PIP breast implants and the 16 deaths after the Costa Concordia hit rocks on the shore of Italy.

Having spent the Christmas period back home in Ipswich, I, like many locals watching TV or buying a local newspaper have come across the story of local seven year-old Mason Fountain.

Blogging could seriously damage your wealth.

Yeah I know. Me again! A midnight procrastinator with a bad habit of feeding a dozen social nework and blogging pages.

Now you might be surprised, but I have come close to throwing a few fucks around and slating a few people off in my time about them or their companies in a blog. Good job I never!

Livestream

I asked the powers that be if it was possible to set up a live feed for our TV Newsday on Friday and was answered with a very resounding no. I have seen live streaming before from places like St Paul's Cathedral and the Occupy movement there but, my question shot down in flames, tail between my legs, I never thought much more about it. Until I found my notes from that cold evening at St Paul's which reminded myself of the name of the program that the protestors were using: 'Livestream'. So...

Ten ways to save the regional press.

Jon Slattery has all the answers!

Extra, extra, read all about it! Library pays for its new e-mailing system with fines.

I have been glued to the new e-mail system of late, waiting still, for my NCTJ exam result login details, but also for any renewal reminder of the numerous books I have taken out over the holiday. No cigar!

This afternoon I became suspicious and logged on to the library system to find that I have nearly a tenner's worth of fines... Thanks.

BE WARNED!

Calling all CfJ tweeters

In an uncharacteristic acknowledgement of the growth of Twitter, I've installed a module on this site to allow users to automatically send their blog entries to a Twitter account. The default is to send to a Centre for Journalism account (twitter.com/centreforjourn) I've set up, but individual users can also set it so that it sends to their own Twitter accounts whenever they post a blog entry.

I'd appreciate if any of you Tweeters could test this feature out for me.
