election

Romney wins in Iowa

I must admit I have not always paid much attention to the Republican presidential nomination races in the past. But when most of the candidates ate fried butter at the Iowa State Fair I knew it was a race I did not want to miss, I mean how does one even fry butter?

Good luck with election coverage

Very good luck to everyone in the Centre for Journalism who is involved in coverage of the general election count tonight. Election 2010 has turned out to be an intriguing contest, and I am proud that so many students are helping to report the results. In our representative democracy, few duties are more important than conveying accurate information about the political process to the electorate. Fast, accurate reporting of results is crucial. I hope it goes well for everyone involved.

Gravesham Lib Dems try something a little different...

I suppose if you want to try and engage that tricky demographic of 18-20 year old males, then having a director of hardcore porn films standing in an election is probably the way to go.

That's what the Liberal Democrats in Gravesham have done. Anna Arrowsmith managing director of adult film company, Easy on the Eye will be tasked with taking on current Gravesham MP, Adam Holloway for his parliamentary seat in this year's election.

Hung Parliament looming?

If you believe the polls we may be in for a hung parliament later this year. Charter 2010 have started a campaign based around this possibility which includes comprehensive information on the constitutional issues. First Years in particular should check this out - it might give you ideas about some questions for the MPs we meet at Westminster next week.

Sun comes out for Cameron

It's arguable that more front pages of The Sun have achieved legendary status than those of any other national newspaper. Tomorrow morning's Labour's Lost It splash may not quite be in the immortal class, but nonetheless it's one that will be much discussed in the corridors of Westminster and beyond.

"Yes we can"

Today, the world celebrates the first mixed race president of the United States of America. However, despite his rhetoric, awe-inspiring speechmaking and total embodiment of the American Dream, can he deliver?

The Hard Work Is Yet To Come

Firstly, I'd like to congratulate Barrack Obama on a landslide victory following on from a campaign which has embraced and captured the hearts of Americans. His election as next President is a monumental historical event, and I truly believe that he is capable of improving the current financial situation. However, we have yet to see any concrete evidence of policies which will systematically change the electorate's lives for the better. I'm sure he is full to the point of bursting with political breakthroughs, but the hype of the election has in my eyes clouded over this somewhat.

President Obama

The election of Senator Barack Obama as President is truly a mile-stone in the history of today's world.
When I switched on my laptop this morning and connected to the internet I was greeted by home page spreads declaring Barack Obama to have "made history". For me this is huge.
This intelligent, family man is truly an inspiration to us all and I foresee a good time ahead of the USA if everything falls into place before the 20th of January.

New York Times's interactive election
