Rotten Apples

Two stories stood out this morning on the Daily Mail's website. So much so, I had to check the business news that Bill Gates hadn't initiated a takeover of the newspaper. Both stories we're fairly high up on the website, and both seemed to be following the current trend set by news outlets of rubbishing technology giant Apple.

By now you've probably heard that 2010 is going to be the year of the rise of the smartphones. "No wait, I thought 2010 was meant to be the year of 3D TV?" you exclaim (at least if you've read Part 1). Ah but you see...2010 is going to be an incredible year, the year 3D TV hits the market and the year that the smartphones rise up! Or so the techno-prophets say.

 

Nexus One vs iPhone: Why Apple will stay on top

Since it's release, the iPhone has rocked the mobile phone industry. Industry giants who lumbered, sanguine, in their well-trodden paths were shaken half to death by Apple.

But why?

Apologies, but the iPhone is not a technological miracle. Things like 3G, video capture, and processing speed are only added a model after the time that they should have been. Fair play, multi-touch and video editing are key strengths that not many phones can mimic, but these things alone do not warrant such a die-hard following.

There are now more than 100,000 apps for the Iphone!!

I saw this and initially smiled, thinking, 'how cool', until I read something by the guy responsible for the 'isteam' app.

"The idea came to me after a shower. The bathroom mirror was fogged up and I found myself instinctively drawing. I thought an iPhone App would be cool"

He thinks about his Iphone in the shower....

Audioboo: awful or awesome?

As we keep on hearing from various guest speakers that come to the Centre for Journalism mobile phones have a future in the news industry.

Well here’s one of the latest sites to use mobile phone technology for breaking news... It’s called Audioboo and it has been called the Twitter for people who want their voices heard
