UMSA

Is the NUS fundamentally undemocratic?

A message for all NUS representatives and a call to all students

Now that we have reached the end of our time at the 2011 National Union of Students (NUS) Conference, let us pause and reflect. We have elected Liam Burns as the new NUS president, a president elected by 446 votes to represent seven million students. Seven million students! He is the one the vast majority of those students will come to equate with the NUS. Charged with representing the entirety of the student body he is the one who they will see on the news.

Medway Boat Race

For those of you still searching for your last portfolio pieces, the Medway Boat Race is tomorrow and could present a good opportunity!

Get there for about 12:30 to catch the warm-up training sessions. I think there might even be a press conference at some point, best thing to do is just ask the organisers when you get there!

Activities awards nominations

(Posting it on here because it will avoid having to CC everyone in all the time through email)

Basically, UMM can submit one vote for each category for the categories listed further down - it's a tad long. The Activities Awards are scheduled for Saturday 22nd May,

Chuck your votes below by the 15th April if you want to have a say. If you've never contributed to the mag - don't bother.

Activities Awards and UMM stuff

I guess it seems like things have been quiet on the UMM front recently. I’ve been discussing plans for next year with UMSA and will be organising the elections for editor. Sorry it’s been a complete shambles this year, but I’m thinking that next year is going to be our year for fabulous things. I’d like to know whether or not anyone would like to do one final issue this year – it will come out just after Easter if so? Or would you rather concentrate on getting a team together for next year - full of things like a promotion team/feature and sport editors?
