Neil Arun didn’t want to miss a rare but risky opportunity to embed with an Iraqi police unit, hunting members of al Qaeda. But his employers -- responsible for Neil’s security -- weren’t happy. This film by Richard Pendry nvestigates how a frontline journalist balances risk and reward.
Contrary to what the pundits would have you believe, Woolworths does indeed have a niche. It’s one that’s very close to my heart. In fact, after Somerfield, Amazon and First Great Western I’ve probably spent more money at Woolworths than anywhere else since I started this course.
That’s not to say I love pick ‘n’ mix (I don’t like sweets) and I certainly never browse beyond my aisle of choice. But for me, Woolworth’s has been a refuge from the relentless newsy-ness of this term so far.
When I want to think about nothing for a bit, I can switch off and slowly vegetate in front of an endless plethora of escapist clap-trap from the second rate cinematic artists of yesteryear for less than a Chinese take away.
Cheap DVDs! Where would I be without you? Will I be confined to the dismal selection in Somerfield that barely changes from one week to the next (I can’t tell you how many times I’ve considered buying Michael Douglas’ Falling Down before deciding it’s not quite worth three quid)?
Who knew that Richard Gere had made a film set in the American Revolution? Me either. No Country For Old Men for eight pounds? Oh go on then, Woolies, you persuaded me. Damn your incomprehensively low prices!
I know they’re just bits of plastic, but it’s so comforting to know that, for less than renting a DVD back home, I can own one I’ve never heard of after just a ten minute walk. That strange feeling of “I’m pretty sure I wouldn’t have rather spent that evening any other way” is one I’ll cherish long after this wonderful shop is gone.

Haha John that was immense.
Ever seen Falling Down? I would pay 3 quid for that, it is very much a film you watch when you yourself are having a bad day.
And as for No Country for Old Men, what did you think of it?I didn't particularly like it as it didn't really go anywhere...
I think I'm just captivated by them as film makers but it's got something about it.
I also used to act so I really love thinking about characters.
Mostly I just liked it because it looks awesome and finished about ten minutes later than it could've.
