Peak Oil Puts Production in Peril

Global oil production will peak within five years, a report called ‘The Oil Crunch’ warned yesterday. The group of energy companies concluded that a peak and fall scenario is the ‘highly probable’ outcome of current trends, though exactly when cannot be predicted.

The view of the British government is that ‘global proven reserves are larger than the cumulative production needed to meet rising demand until 2030’

Former oil geologist Jeremy Leggett warned of the dangers of such optimism ‘Having failed to act proactively to head of the credit crunch, we must not make the same mistake with the oil crunch

The five biggest private oil companies, Chevron, Royal Dutch Shell, Totaal, BP and Exxon Mobil, have already experienced their own production peaks.

Jeremy Legget, executive chairman of Solar Century, said “If we accelerate the green industrial revolution, we believe we can soften the blow of the oil crunch... and get out of oil dependence quickly”
